2017 ICD-10 CHANGES

(EFFECTIVE: OCTOBER 1, 2016)

Introduction

In October of 2015 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented ICD-10 in spite of fervent opposition from the American Medical Association (AMA). A compromise was reached whereby ICD-10 implementation included a one-year grace period to allow providers and healthcare payers more time to fully embrace the change. CMS promised not to deny claims submitted to Medicare and Medicaid that contained ICD-10 codes in the correct “family of codes.” Many healthcare payers followed suit but are now requiring more specificity.

The CMS one-year grace period for using non-specific ICD-10 codes ended October 1, 2016. At the same time, CMS also implemented more than 2,700 ICD-10 changes for 2017 (effective October 1, 2016) and requires providers to use codes with more precision and specificity.

We have researched the IDC-10 code changes and have assembled some resources to help our clients adjust to the new 2017 changes.

The following ICD-10 Reference Chart was created for our clients from data collected from our clients. It is intended to be used as a reference guide only and was never intended to be a complete and/or sole ICD-10 reference.

The new ICD-10 Reference Chart includes the most commonly used ICD-10 codes for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Temporomandibular Joint Disorders and Orofacial Pain.

Note: In addition to the new 2017 ICD-10 Conversion chart, Triton has already made the changes to all of our clients online charge slips/super bills/e-bills within their medical billing software, so all you need to do is start using the new codes.

Please print a copy of the ICD-10 Reference Chart as it will be required on October 1, 2016.
